What Are Your Social Media Resolutions for 2012?

You might be surprised to hear that despite my passion for social media, I am also a skeptic. I’m allotted the same 1,440 minutes each day as everyone else, and I don’t like wasting any of them. As we head into a new year, I think about where I should be allocating my time over the coming 12 months, and what I might have done differently in the months that have passed. Since social media is a major part of my job, I spend time Continue reading →

Facebook Ads: Think Social’s Harris Decker Provides Tips and Insights For Small & Medium-sized Businesses

Over the past three years or so, I’ve had the benefit of exchanging ideas and collaborating with some of the top social media influencers in Westchester County and across the country. I realized early on that this environment is moving far too fast for anyone to attempt to do it all on their own. Last week, I had the opportunity to meet Harris Decker, the owner of Westchester-based Think Social, a social media, website design and marketing firm that works with storefronts, online communities and brands. During Continue reading →

Social Media Opens Doors For Those Willing to Listen

Frequently when talking about the subject of social media, people will tell me they choose not to participate because they feel no one will be interested in what they have to say. I find this interesting, because it shows a misunderstanding of social media on two different levels. First, there are more than 250 million people in this country, and billions more on this planet. It’s true that not all of them want to hear about what you’ve been doing lately– but it’s also true Continue reading →

Social Media to be Featured Heavily at BOW11

Westchester Magazine to promote use of new media leading up to & during ‘Best of Westchester’ Event at Glen Island Harbour Club You are most likely aware of the Best of Westchester event being held  tonight, July 20, at the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle. I’ve attended this spectacular event on several occasions, a couple times as a Best of Westchester winner, and on other occasions as a member of the general public. This year I am extremely enthusiastic to be attending as a social media partner. In recent years, there has been Continue reading →

Chris S. Cornell Now a Columnist for Examiner Media

Westchester’s Chris S. Cornell — the founder of WestchesterSocialMedia.com and Director of Social Media at Thompson & Bender —  was recently named social media columnist for TheExaminerNews.com. Cornell, who also co-founded Westchester140 (the group that organized the first five Westchester Tweetups), wrote a guest column in early January, and was asked to stay on to write the column weekly. Facebook Deals Come to Westchester Businesses

If you thought 2010 was the year of Facebook, just wait until you see what’s in store for 2011. Most of the social media and digital marketing experts I’ve spoken with over the past few weeks seem to feel that the internet giant will continue to grow in popularity over the coming year — particularly with small businesses. In yesterday’s mail at Cornell Gallery (the retail framing business I’ve owned and operated for the past 15 years) I received an envelope from Facebook that shows Continue reading →

19th Annual WPLJ Concert Auction Features Dozens of Dream Items; Hospital Using Social Media to Promote Fund-raiser How much would you pay for six seats to a New York Yankees game next season? New York City’s FOX 5 News Looks to Westchester Social Media Expert Chris Dessi For Answers

After appearing on FOX News at 10 with Ernie Anastos about a week-and-a-half ago, Chappaqua’s Chris Dessi commented that “my 15 minutes of fame look like they’re all used up.” Dessi — a managing partner at social media and digital marketing agency Drive Action Digital that recently moved to Tarrytown — had been tracked down by the folks at FOX through his blog. In his first FOX appearance, he spoke to Anastos about a case involving a woman who was fired from her job as Continue reading →

“Westchester Photography” Now On Facebook

Photographers and fans use social media to develop new community Over the past year or so, I’ve learned a thing or two about building communities through the use of social media. Armed with that knowledge and a lifelong enthusiasm for photography, I recently established the Westchester Photography Facebook page. The response has been great, and I’m now wishing I’d gotten it started much earlier. The purpose of the Westchester Photography page is to provide a place where local photographers and fans of photography can share their common interest. Continue reading →
